WELCOME!

Our course is designed for an average homeowner, hobbyist, farmer or homesteader who wants to learn basic welding skills for small fabrication and repair projects around the home, farm or shop. Modern welding equipment is affordable for anyone and very easy to use. It takes years of practice to become a good welding professional, but anyone can perform most basic welding tasks after an hour of practice. Let us prove it to you. What have you got to loose?

PREPARATION

When you arrive, you will be given all the equipment, gear and supplies and start welding immediately. No boring theory or introductions! The instructor will be watching you and giving you suggestions, corrections and answering your questions. 100% practical, one-on-one session. You will fabricate an item of your choice and take it home to proudly show to your family!

You will learn two processes that are most useful for an average DIYer: Flux Core (Gasless MIG or FCAW) and Stick (SMAW). They are easy to learn, equipment is affordable, small, light and, most importantly, no gas cylinders, hoses or regulators are required.

We are using a $100 Stick welder from Princess Auto and a $200 Flux Core welder from Canadian Tire. Both welders were designed with beginner operators in mind and work from a regular 115V household receptacle on a 15Amp breaker. Our goal is to demonstrate that getting into welding is affordable and easy and that you don't need expensive equipment to perform good quality welds.

Wear clothes made from materials that don't catch on fire easily. Leather boots, jeans and a long sleeve denim shirt or jacket would be ideal. All safety gear will be provided.  We don't require or recommend doing any reading or watching videos on the subject before the class. There is so much information about welding that it can be overwhelming and confusing in the beginning. Start with the basics, learn more later.

Our instructor is a jack of all trades, not a professional welder. This enables him to explain the process in simple terms and give clear instructions that anyone can understand without being overwhelmed or confused.

If you have significant welding experience and want to get deeper, learn more advanced skills or pursue welding as a career, our course is NOT for you. This is a beginner level course designed to introduce people to welding. If you want more, Holland College offers a great welding fabrication program.

We want you to spend your entire class welding, not listening to boring safety instructions. However, safety in welding is very important as there are fire and electrical hazards involved. You will receive a safety instructions sheet. It is your responsibility to read, initial and sign it PRIOR to coming to your class.

The course fee is only $100. This includes one hour of one-on-one instruction and all materials, gear and supplies. If, at the end of the class, you realize that you haven't learned anything useful and wasted your time, you can choose not to pay. No hard feelings!
